The Kite Runner Essay -- Khaled Hosseini Afghani and Islamic culture

Khaled Hosseinis best-selling novel, The increase Runner, is an eye-opening look intoAfghani and Islamic cultivation through the painful memories of an American immigrant, Amir.Hosseinis novel is rich with bonny imagery and settings. The book also masterfully tells ofdisturbing events and very accredited characters. Perhaps Hosseinis greatest achievement is his vastand quite in force(p) use of symbolism in The Kite Runner. One such revenant symbol is thepomegranate. The pomegranates rich symbolic hi myth from cultures about the world providesmany different interpretations as to the various ideas the pomegranate represents. The KiteRunner can be viewed as an analogy for the well-known story of Adam and Eves expulsionfrom the Garden of Eden by interpreting the pomegranate as the prohibit fruit.Many people are familiar with the story of Adam and Eves fall from promised land in theBook of Genesis in the Old Testament or from the Hebrew Torah. What may be less familiar topeople is that a similar story is also found in the Koran. The Koran states, O Adam Dwell thouand thy wife in the Garden, and eat ye bountifully there from whatever ye list but to this manoeuvrecome not nigh, lest ye become of the transgressors. But Satan made them slip from it, andcaused their banishment from the function in which they were (Rodwell 6). The Koran does notexplicitly state the quality of tree that was interdict, just as the Book of Genesis only tells of anunnamed forbidden fruit. This forbidden fruit is normally believed to have been an apple.Many scholars now believe, though, that the forbidden fruit of scripture was actually apomegranate.The transformation in common culture of pomegranate to apple may have had manycauses.
